Frequently Asked Questions

This resource guide provides answers to many of the frequently asked questions on how to have the best experience with the library resources and services.

Adding an EZProxy bookmark to your iPad or iPhone

When using RSS feeds you may need to access the full-text through UTHSC access.  Instead of returning to the library homepage to navigate to the resource through the ezproxy.uthsc.edu login, use the following directions to set up a bookmarklet that will reload the article that you found as if you were on campus, thus accessing through the UTHSC subscription.

Depending on your iPad's operating system, instructions may vary slightly from those described below. The following instructions were created using iOS 10.3.2.

To add an EZproxy bookmarklet to your iPad or iPhone:

  1. Open Safari or Chrome and then access these directions at: https://libguides.uthsc.edu/faqs/sc/ezproxy
  2. Copy the following line of script by pressing on the line of code until it becomes highlighted in blue (be sure to highlight the entire line) and then tap on the Copy popup icon.

    javascript:void(location.href='https://ezproxy.uthsc.edu/login?url='+location.href)

  3. In your browser window, add a bookmark of this page:
    • Safari:
      • Tap on the Share icon at bottom of screen (an arrow pointing up out of a square). A box will appear. In the box, tap on the Add Bookmark icon, then tap Save.
    • Chrome:
      • Tap the menu in upper right corner, then the Star icon.
  4. Edit the bookmark with the code you copied above:
    • Safari:
      • On the screen, tap on the Bookmarks icon (it looks like an open book). In the box, you’ll see a list of bookmarks. Tap on Edit .  Tap on the right arrow directly to the right of “Adding the EZ…”
      • You can now change the name of the bookmarklet to something you’ll remember and insert the line of script you copied. To do this:
        • Tap on the “x” to delete the name (if the “x” is not visible, press on the title and an “x” should appear). Type a new bookmarklet name.
      • Next, delete the URL by tapping on the "x" (if the “x” is not visible, press on the URL and an “x” should appear).
        • Gently press inside the address box and a Paste popup icon should appear.
        • Tap on Paste to insert the new URL into the box. The script from step #2 should now appear in the box.
      • Tap on Done on the keypad and then tap on Done at the bottom of the Bookmarks box. The EZproxy bookmarklet is now saved in your bookmarks.
    • Chrome:
      • On the screen, tap on the Menu icon (3 dots in upper right corner), then Bookmarks. You’ll see a list of bookmarks. Tap on the 3 dots to right of the "Adding the EZProxy..." bookmark.  Tap EDIT
      • You can now change the name of the bookmarklet to something you’ll remember and insert the line of script you copied. To do this:
        • Tap the Name and edit the name or use the "x" to completely delete the Name and start from scratch.

When you want to access an article off campus, tap on the Bookmarks icon and then the EZproxy bookmarklet link. Once you log into EZproxy using your UTHSC netid, you will have full-text access to articles available through UTHSC subscriptions as if you were on campus.
