A running head, or page header, is a shortened version of your paper's title that is 50 characters or less. It is written in all caps.
In Microsoft Word, doubleclick the top section of the document where the running head belongs until the Header & Footer Tools box opens up. Choose Different First Page under options and type: Running head: TITLE OF YOUR PAPER
Once you get to the second page of the paper, doubleclick the header seciton action to open Header and Footer Tools. For the header, online type in the abbreviated title and it will appear on the rest of the pages and 'Running head' will only be on the first page.
