Resources regarding the 2019 Novel Coronavirus

Welcome to the UTHSC Health Sciences Library 2019 Novel Coronavirus Research Guide. Given the rise in interest around the Coronavirus outbreak, we have gathered information providing an overview of the virus, as well as resources for researchers and patients. Our primary intent is to share unique resources from various publishers to which the library subscribes.

Please be advised that this guide is not mean to serve as a resource pertaining to official UTHSC policy regarding the Coronavirus outbreak.

Additionally, as Tennessee’s public academic medical institution, the College of Medicine at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center is committed to providing information to the communities we serve about important topics such as the emergence of the novel coronavirus (SARS CoV-2) and the disease it is causing (COVID-19). In order to support these efforts, the College of Medicine has created a resource page detailing FAQs, resources, and expert responses regarding the virus, you may access the guide at https://uthsc.edu/medicine/coronavirus/resources.php

This illustration, created at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), reveals ultrastructural morphology exhibited by coronaviruses. Note the spikes that adorn the outer surface of the virus, which impart the look of a corona surrounding the virion, when viewed electron microscopically. A novel coronavirus virus was identified as the cause of an outbreak of respiratory illness first detected in Wuhan, China in 2019.
