EndNote: Automate to Find Full Text PDFs

Instructions

EndNote can automatically locate and download full text files by accessing several sources, including: DOI (Digital Object Identifier), PubMed LinkOut, and ISI Web of Knowledge Full Text Links. EndNote will try to use all of these methods to optimize the likelihood of finding full text files associated with your bibliographic records. To optimize your chances of getting a full PDF file, make sure you are set up to use UTHSC OpenURL before running "Find Full Text".

  1. Open your EndNote Library.
  2. Highlight the references you would like EndNote to look for full text.
  3. Go to References->Find Full Text->Find Full Text.
  4. Once a PDF associated with an EndNote record is found, it will be automatically attached to the record.

Note that the EndNote Find Full Text feature will not find everything for you. Some journals and database services (e.g., JSTOR, EBSCO, and SWETS) will not work with it even if the UTHSC Library does have access to the full text.
